"Hand-drawn China: Wuhan in Chinese Character"

The 2017 Beijing Design Week kicked off on October 1 in Beijing Phoenix Center. Art works created by college students from Wuhan drew much attention.

The works on display are "Hand-Drawn China: Wuhan in Chinese Characters" and "Hand-Drawn China: Shanghai in Chinese Characters" which were created by a student team led by Xu Zhengbing, a teacher in the School of Arts and Design at Wuhan Technology and Business University. The two were exhibited in the "Chinese Creative Craftsmen Top 100" category.

The top 100 Chinese creative craftsmen were selected from designers and craft brands by a review panel made up of senior industrial experts. The chosen works will be collected and meet the public during the design week.

"It's a great encouragement for our team to be selected into the 'Creative Craftsmen Top 100,' with our works liked by so many people," said Xu. "Being a part of the exhibition is an opportunity for us to give more people a sense of belonging and to help them learn more about the cities where they dwell."

"Wuhan in Chinese Characters" was very successful right after it came out, so the team started to set their sights on other domestic cities. After over half a year's field investigation and creation, "Shanghai in Chinese Characters" premiered in September in the Great World Entertainment Center of Shanghai. "Taiwan in Chinese Characters" is even more anticipated and is based on the urban landscapes and historical culture of Taiwan. It is set to be published this November.
